Everything really is a miracle, if you understand the definition of “miracle”. In this book, I am using the generic word for miracles, but when we talk about miracles and your heart’s desires, we need some better definitions than we were taught.
For a long time I thought miracles were those radical blessings that happened to me, but were unexplainable. Was it a formula, or did God randomly chose to give them to people. Maybe it was as a result of how well I prayed. But over the years I’ve learned that miracles and mystery are not always synonymous and it is no less a miracle if we can explain it.
What if miracles are not random acts of God? What if we have a say so in the experience? By making God responsible for every miracle, then it means we are also tempted to blame him for the non-performance of it, or conversely we think we or others didn’t have “enough” faith for God to give it. Neither option is worthwhile.
When I began soul searching to discover the next steps in my own life, I not only had to follow the whispers in my heart, I had to be willing to participate in my heart so that they would come to pass. You will need heart participation too.
Some people think that a miracle is when God operates counter to the laws of nature. Because we tend to believe this, we call miracles “SUPER-natural”. One of the things that quantum physics taught the scientific community is that there are completely different laws on the quantum level than at the atomic level. So too, a miracle doesn’t violate nature; it just operates through different laws within creation, probably at a quantum level.
That is good news because if there is a way to cooperate with (not control) basic laws, then we can influence the outcomes, and if there is a part we play, then they don’t have to be the exception. This Law is love.
I also learned that miracles are not a substitute for action. So together, wise action and miracle power create a capacity to achieve our hearts desires.
So what is a miracle? This is very important for us to understand. A superficial use of the word “miracle” will undermine the very nature of a miracle! The Greek word in the New Testament is the word, dunamis: “(miraculous) power, might, strength”. But notice Thayer’s Greek definition: “inherent power, power residing in a thing by virtue of its nature, or which a person or thing exerts and puts forth". Did you know that power is inherent within you now? The miracle is IN YOU now! It is learning how to release our miracle power through our hearts that causes us to manifest our dreams.
Jesus told a parable about how a man went on a journey and left five talents of money to one, two to another and one to yet another. He gave each one money according to his dunamis-power-ability, the same word for miracle in Greek. He knew each had varying levels of capacity in using his dunamis-power and expected a return on his investment. The one with five used his capacity to invest it and gain five more. The man with two gained two more. The one with one talent of money limited his God-given dunamis-power through fear and was rebuked for hiding it instead (Mt. 25:13-15).
In the story he limited his dunamis-power because of what he believed about the master. So too, what we believe about God affects the flow of our power. Love is the opposite of fear. Love opens the channels of our hearts so that it flows freely, and when it does amazing things will begin to happen!
Don’t rush past this definition. If it is within us now, then how that dunamis-power flows through our words, our thoughts, our actions, our relationships and our dreams affects everything. We use it to create, to multiply or manifest dreams. Or we can allow it to be shut down, and shift the blame to God or the world around us. Micro and mega miracles flow through us, not just to us. The secret is in the plain truth of living from the inside out.
The dunamis-miracle-power of love causes us to act in new ways, to take on new tasks, and to increase our capacity for action. It empowers us to make real lasting changes, and to invest in projects we previously would be afraid of trying.
It also is a spiritual force flowing through us, that attracts our hearts desires into our lives and changes the environment around us. Some will call it favor. Others say that love is our highest vibration which attracts like experiences to like ideas. Whatever you call it, it is real and shapes our lives in ways that we are just barely starting to glimpse.
Beyond Your Wildest Dreams is not a new idea. It is an ancient enduring truth: “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…” (Ephesians 3:20, NIV). There is a miracle in you! Paul says it is the miracle-dunamis-power of love! The primary purpose was so that they would know God, but the outflow of that was to be into the human family and daily life. He is applying a general principle to the specific relationship. The general principle is that our God-given dunamis-power to know and flow in love, sets in motion more than we can ask or imagine!
